## ASVAB Arithmetic Reasoning

The Arithmetic Reasoning sub-test of the ASVAB examination will mainly cover word problems. The test has been set up to evaluate your knowledge of basic high school Mathematics. The questions will need to be carefully answered, for this sub-test will be part of the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) score. Its important to remember that the CAT-ASVAB Arithmetic Reasoning sub-test has 16 questions, and only 39 minutes to answer. If you are taking the pencil and paper version of the test you will have to answer 30 questions in 36 minutes.

**Testing & Scoring**

Arithmetic Reasoning will test your ability to solve basic math problems that one may encounter on a day to day basis. One-step and multi-step word problems will require students to multiply, divide, add, and subtract. The Arithmetic Reasoning sub-test of the ASVAB will cover Mathematical topics and basic concepts of Arithmetic. Expect to be tested on Percentages, Proportions, Ratios, Interest and Numbers. You will need to choose the correct order of operations when more than one step is needed. Arithmetic Reasoning will help you characterize mathematics comprehension and provide you with a valid measure of logical thinking.

Your score on the Arithmetic Reasoning sub-test will be reported separately as an ASVAB standard score. Furthermore, the score will be considered when calculating your percentile rank.
